EDITORIAL

Some people always perform good deeds, never think ill of others, always worship God but they face lot of hardships and are generally in a gloomy mood. Some people always perform evil deeds, never think well of others but they are seen enjoying the life and are generally in a cheerful mood.
On seeing such a contradiction, a common man is perplexed as to which route he should follow, should he follow in the footsteps of those looking wealthy and enjoying life but doing evil or follow the holy books all of which teach performing good deeds? A common man wonders whether God has changed His scheme in the present times or have the holy books become redundant in the present scenario.
If we correctly understand the scheme of God regarding the distribution of joy and sorrow among the people, we shall get the answer. When we are born, our destiny is already determined according to our past deeds which we did in past births; when and how much we shall have joy and when and how much we shall have sorrow is already fixed.
Now question is; if everything is destined and fixed, why should we perform good deeds? What is the effect of our good or evil deeds? How does God evaluate our deeds? How does God maintain the account of our deeds? All this we have to understand.
God maintains our joys – sorrow account exactly in the same manner as any bank keeps our money account. When we deposit money, it is entered on credit side and when we withdraw money, it is entered on debit side. As we go on depositing money, our credit side goes on increasing and as we go on withdrawing, our debit side goes on increasing. The important point to note is that when we deposit money, our credit increases but debit does not decrease and when we withdraw money, our debit increases but credit does not decrease. Similarly, when we perform good deeds our joys increase but sorrows are not reduced and when we perform evil deeds our sorrows increase but our joys are not reduced.
Thus, whatever joys and sorrows are in our destiny cannot be decreased; they can only be increased.
According to me, this is a method to manage our life’s account. If a saint lives his life as a common man then above things also apply for him. However, God-devotion and surrender affords relief by mitigating the impact of suffering and sorrow as one gradually rises above body-consciousness.

PARABLE

I On television screen, one watched all kinds of programs. Some times we see violence or some shots of war and sometimes there are some scene of love and affection. The screen, however, remains unaffected and there is no change in it. Similarly, saints remain blissfully indifferent in all situations.

II There are two fields; one has wheat and the other opium. Hard work is needed in growing both the crops. Opium perhaps needs more effort than wheat. But if we see the result, wheat fills the empty stomachs and satiates hunger, while opium is an intoxicant which is harmful for human body and may cause even death. Hence, the saints always prefer the actions that may produce well for all.

UNIVERSAL BROTHERHOOD – SANT NIRANKARI MISSION

From The Book “S. N. Mission Prachar Activities and Organizational Set-up”

I think after the Mussoorie Conference there is hardly anyone who has cared to go through those decisions and thought about their implementation, whereas they should have been publicized as widely as possible and the devotes motivated to act upon them.

Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji (Ludhiana – 1975)

Intoxicants
From today itself, all the saints who are present here should leave the place with a pledge that, as already advised, they shall refrain from the use of any intoxicant (wine, opium, drugs like hemp and herion- even Bidis and cigarettes etc.)

Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji (Mussoorie Conference – 1973)

Marriages
In my view it is a very important subject, it is something that the country needs. Our marriage ceremonies should be simple. All marriages should be conducted according to Nirankari ceremony and they should be performed in the morning.

Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji (Mussoorie Conference – 1973)

Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj enshrined the following orders in the Blue Book in 2002:

1. English-Medium Sangat should be organized in every big town;
2. It should be held before or after the main congregation; and
3. Youth should be especially brought to the forefront (Prachar: Article 69)
4. “English- Sangat be given representation in all outdoor and indoor sangats; one or two speeches, songs or poems are to be in English medium also’’ (Prachar: Article 35)
WORDS OF THE
“TRUE MASTER OF THE TIME – BABA HARDEV SINGH JI MAHARAJ”

I. No realization of God is the main cause of communal attacks.
II. Deeds are lame without knowledge and knowledge is blind without deeds.
III. The mind which is stored with envy, grudge, and selfish attitude is more dangerous than nuclear weapons.
IV. Despite knowing God closely if u r doing a sin then it is like jumping from a tall building.

YOUR QUESTION AND YOUR ANSWER

STEPS CAN BE TAKEN TO AVOID COMMUNALISM VIOLENCE:

First and the foremost step is, I think, we can start with these. Before I conclude, I would request you again to make a beginning in the right direction, even in a modest way, rather than following the oft-beaten track and making no contribution towards the settlement of the vexed problem of communalism and communal violence.

1. Educational institutions should be freed from all sorts of religious influences.

2. No religious customs should be observed in functions sponsored directly by the state or under state patronage.

3. Inter-caste and inter-religion marriage should be effectively encouraged.

4. Common association of different communities in social and religious functions should be actively encouraged.

5. Public meetings, group meetings, etc., of members of different communities should be organized in large numbers to discuss the communal problem and devise ways and means to solve it.

6. Periodicals in different languages should be published where all writings on communal questions, except those which overtly or covertly support communalism, should find a place.

7. People’s committees at all levels should be formed with representatives of different communities to conduct anti-communal movement, care being taken to mobilize and enlist mass participation in large numbers in these movements.

8. Social sanction, even to the extent of ostracism, against those who preach or practice or cause to preach or practice communalism should be actively enforced.

9. Programs should also continue to make specific efforts to reduce obvious high-risk behaviors among adolescents, such as gang involvement, heavy drinking, and carrying handguns.

10. Improving the conditions of living of minorities.

CAREER KNOCK

TOP TEN RUDE OFFICE BEHAVIOURS:

1. The "silent treatment" - There is nothing ruder than having lunch with a co-worker or client and then averting your eyes when you pass in the hall or acting as though you've never met when seated across the table for a business meeting. You should acknowledge the other persons presence.
2. Gossiping - Gossip is the height of inactivity in the workplace and it is extremely bad manners to assume that everyone else is interested in the often spiteful and meaningless tidbits you're passing on. Gossiping does not build trusting work relationships.
3. Inappropriate attire - Too short, too tight, too revealing clothes should be avoided in office. A good rule of thumb is to follow the dress code exhibited by your immediate supervisor.
4. Smoking - Don't smoke in public places, especially work, except in designated areas. If possible, don't smoke at all when with clients.
5. Poor Phone Manners - Do not put a caller on hold so you can answer your "call waiting". Do not keep people on hold for any reason for an extended period and do return telephone calls with in 4 hours if possible. If you're leaving a message, make sure you leave your name and number and a brief message. Nothing is more frustrating that a voice mail message where someone forgets to leave his or her name or number. If a message has been left, pass it without "meaningful" comments, especially if the caller is of the opposite sex. 6. Indecent Behavior - Do not address your supervisor or co-workers by their first name or a nickname when introducing a client. Always introduce the less accomplished person to the more accomplished person. In fact the proper introduction protocol is to use the most
Important person's name first. In any case, any introduction is better than no introduction.
7. Disregard of others time - Do not be late and do not keep others waiting. 8. Inconsiderate of Common Space - Leaving your mess out in a common space, leaving dirty coffee mugs in conference rooms, and leaving stapler or copier empty after using the last of the staples or paper. Do not brush your hair, change your socks, apply make-up or use a toothpick anywhere except the bathroom. 9. Not Paying Your Fair Share - At a restaurant with peers and not paying enough to cover your entire meal -- drink, meal and tax. Do return borrowed objects and do not "borrow" anything without permission. This applies to office supplies, reports, ideas and even clients. 10. Snooping - Reading others faxes, email, computer screen, or mail. The secretary or any authorized person in the department should open letters that are addressed to the position - Marketing Manager or Personnel Manager.
Not only fresher’s, even senior and middle level employees need to keep a check on their office etiquette.

COVER STORY: “GOD CREATE THE MAN WITH HIS OWN IMAGE”

Once upon a time God made a creation and named it as a man. God himself was of the view that his creation of man is the beauteous creation of all. God made heaven for the survival of man. God gifted a man another creation of woman to man as a life partner who can pass time with him.

One day, God provided them a heaven and he himself took them to the one of the garden of heaven. In the garden they stood nearby a tree of a garden. God told them that whenever they wish for anything they want they got at once, you need not to do anything but always remember that you must not eat the fruit of the tree , nearby of which we are standing . After giving them instructions, God left them alone. Many days had been passed; they were living their life blissfully. They daily ate the new fruits and food.

On one day woman thought that a fruit of the tree that God warned us not to eat, may be very delicious one. So she thought hat she should try that fruits also. This thought got remained in the heart of woman and she insisted a man that she wants to eat the fruit of only that tree. At the very first man tried to convince her but at last when she got more adamant then he thought that he will pluck the fruit of that tree for her.

One day , when he plucked the fruit of that tree , God appeared at once , God angrily said that he had warned you for not eating the fruit of that tree but you didn’t obeyed it.

God told them that he was given them the award of best and beautiful creation but you become avaricious (greedy) that you didn’t keep his words. At that time god got annoyed over his creation and angrily he thrown them out of the heaven. He further added that he treated them as his sons and provided them that they need not to do anything but now you get as per your work you do on earth. He sends them to the earth.

In a nutshell of this story is that it may be due to the reason given in above story underwritten words come forward:

Man scolds the woman as she became avaricious for that fruit to eat.
Now man get the proverb in reality “As you sow so shall you reap”.

Extra Knock: LOVE YOUR JOB, NOT YOUR COMPANY
Some, rather most organizations reject his CV today because he has changed jobs frequently (10 in 14 years). My friend, the 'job hopper' (referred here as Mr. JH), does not mind it.... well he does not need to mind it at all. Having worked full-time with 10 employer companies in just 14 years gives Mr. JH the relaxing edge that most of the 'company loyal' employees are struggling for today. Today, Mr. JH too is laid off like some other 14-15 year experienced guys - the difference being the latter have just worked in 2-3 organizations in the same number of years. Here are the excerpts of an interview with Mr. JH:Q: Why have you changed 10 jobs in 14 years?A: To get financially sound and stable before getting laid off the second time.Q: So you knew you would be laid off in the year 2009?A: Well I was laid off first in the year 2002 due to the first global economic slowdown. I had not got a full-time job before January 2003 when the economy started looking up; so I had struggled for almost a year without job and with compromises.Q: Which number of job was that?A: That was my third job.Q: So from Jan 2003 to Jan 2009, in 6 years, you have changed 8 jobs to make the count as 10 jobs in 14 years?A: I had no other option. In my first 8 years of professional life, I had worked only for 2 organizations thinking that jobs are deserved after lot of hard work and one should stay with an employer company to justify the saying 'employer loyalty'. But I was an idiot.Q: Why do you say so?A: My salary in the first 8 years went up only marginally. I could not save enough and also, I had thought that I had a 'permanent' job, so I need not worry about 'what will I do if I lose my job'. I could never imagine losing a job because of economic slowdown and not because of my performance. That was January 2002.Q: Can you brief on what happened between January 2003 and 2009.A: Well, I had learnt my lessons of being 'company loyal' and not 'money earning and saving loyal'. But then you can save enough only when you earn enough. So I shifted my loyalty towards money making and saving – I changed 8 jobs in 6 years assuring all my interviewers about my stability.Q: So you lied to your interviewers; you had already planned to change the job for which you were being interviewed on a particular day?A: Yes, you can change jobs only when the market is up and companies are hiring. You tell me - can I get a job now because of the slowdown? No. So one should change jobs for higher salaries only when the market is up because that is the only time when companies hire and can afford the expected salaries.Q: What have you gained by doing such things?A: That's the question I was waiting for. In Jan 2003, I had a fixed salary (without variables) of say Rs. X p.a. In January 2009, my salary was 8X. So assuming my salary was Rs.3 lakh p.a. in Jan 2003, my last drawn salary in Jan 2009 was Rs.24 lakh p.a. (without variable). I never bothered about variable as I had no intention to stay for 1 year and go through the appraisal process to wait for the company to give me a hike.Q: So you decided on your own hike?A: Yes, in 2003, I could see the slowdown coming again in future like it had happened in 2001-02. Though I was not sure by when the next slowdown would come, I was pretty sure I wanted a 'debt-free' life before being laid off again. So I planned my hike targets on a yearly basis without waiting for the year to complete.Q: So are you debt-free now?A: Yes, I earned so much by virtue of job changes for money and spent so little that today I have a loan free 2 BR flat (1200 sq. feet) plus a loan free big car without bothering about any EMIs. I am laid off too but I do not complain at all. If I have laid off companies for money, it is OK if a company lays me off because of lack of money.Q: Who is complaining?A: All those guys who are not getting a job to pay their EMIs off are complaining. They had made fun of me saying I am a job hopper and do not have any company loyalty. Now I ask them what they gained by their company loyalty; they too are laid off like me and pass comments to me – why will you bother about us, you are already debt-free. They were still in the bracket of 12-14 lakh p.a. when they were laid off.Q: What is your advice to professionals?A: Like Narayana Murthy had said - love your job and not your company because you never know when your company will stop loving you. In the same lines, love yourself and your family needs more than the company's needs. Companies can keep coming and going; family will always remain the same. Make money for yourself first and simultaneously make money for the company, not the other way around.Q: What is your biggest pain point with companies?A: When a company does well, its CEO etc will address the entire company saying, 'well done guys, it is YOUR company, keep up the hard work, I am with you." But when the slowdown happens and the company does not do so well, the same CEO etc will say, "It is MY company and to save the company, I have to take tough decisions including asking people to go." So think about your financial stability first; when you get laid off, your kids will complain to you and not your boss.
