EDITORIAL
With the grace of the almighty God, I feel pleasure in releasing the second edition of CoK.. I have been feeling quite happy since I received your feedback on the first edition of CoK. May this bliss remain stable. Your feedback gives me the power to pick up the pen and write more and more for this magazine.
On 23rd of February 2009, birthday of His holiness (Satguru Baba Hardev Singh Ji, Maharaj) was celebrated and I am the luckiest one who got the chance to attend the programme. We give importance to the days on which we celebrate the birthday etc of Gurus or Prophets. Every day is same day but we give extra importance to these days so that while surviving in illusion, a man can remember the holy presence of This Almighty and His Avtars (Forms). The Motive behind the celebration of the birthdays is that we should implement their words into our practical life. Just by reciting the name of Lord Krishna, Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Satguru Baba Hardev Singh Ji, they will not be happy or blessed. When everybody lives a life as a good human being then this God will be happy and bless us.
Dear readers, with your request, from this edition onwards we are adding one more column titled Celebration of Birthdays.
Next month, Holi festival is approaching. Holi is regarded as the festival of joy and colors, but one should always be on alert while playing Holi because, if accident happens, it can ruin the spirit of that day. Also, one should always remember to use some small precautions so that no one that you know or love gets hurt unknowingly.
Many people ask me that Vishu do you have such free time to do this type of work. I think and I replied that everybody brings out the time for his hobby. Anything which you want to do or your heart longs to do then in any circumstances one will spare the time. Now days, I have been spending more than 10 hours in my office due to busy schedule and daily travelling takes 2 hours and rest of the time, I manage for sleeping, domestic work and for this magazine. Now I don’t think that any body can say that I am free. I am asking to people for feedback then many say that we don’t have free time, now think, Are you busier than I am?
I specially thanks to Rev. Arun Sareen, a man of nice and cooperative nature and Rev.S,P. Jindal, a loftiest person, who have been contributed to the completion of this magazine. I am also thankful to all the members of Editorial Board for their valuable contribution.

Quotations with Explanation:
Baba Farid Ji stated that:
Parvardagār-apar-agam-beantū. - O Lord, Sustainer and Cherisher, You are infinite, unfathomable and endless.
Dya kpaah santokh soot, jatt gandi satt vatt,
Eh janeuu jia ka, hyi ta pande ghatt
Na eh tutai na mal lge, na eh jley na jaye
Dhan su manas nanka, jo gal chale paye
-Make compassion the cotton, contentment the thread, modesty the knot and truth the twist.
This is the sacred thread of the soul; if you have it, then go ahead and put it on me.
It does not break, it cannot be soiled by filth, it cannot be burnt, or lost.
Blessed are those mortal beings, O Nanak, who wear such a thread around their necks.
Jimi jmaan k bhikhe samsatt ek jott hai
-Na ghaat hai na baadh hai, na ghaat baad hott hai,
-God is that who dwells between earth and sky
There is no decreasing and increasing measurement of His Form.
He is void of form, dwelth in and out
Of verything with form and shape. – Yajur Veda 40:2
PARABLE
A stream always has two banks; there is no stream with one bank. What matters most is not the banks but the kind of water that flows in between them. Is it filthy water or the stream contains neat and clean water? In case the water in the stream is dirty and polluted, giving foul smell, nobody would like to go near it, but if the water is clean and clear, it is useful for various purposes. Likewise, birth and death are two vital edges of life. The one who is born must die on the appointed day. But here also matters most is not the kind of birth or death one may find, but the kind of life one leads. We go by the fact whether the journey of life was pleasant, giving comfort and solace to others or it was full of ego, sin and suffering, giving pain and misery to others. The former is the ideal life, which the saints live, and the latter is the cursed life of the wayward perverts.
UNIVERSAL BROTHERHOOD – SANT NIRANKARI MISSION
CONVERSATION:
One day, an officer from the C.I.D, came and said to Gurudev, “Maharaj! I attended yesterday‘s programme and quite liked it. I am surprised that the propaganda that has been spread against you brands you as someone who dishonors the past Gurus and Avtars. But in yesterday’s programme, I didn’t find or hear any such thing.
Gurudev said simply,” We give equal respect to all Gurus as well as the prophets. As you have seen for yourself, people from all religious and castes attend our satsang. If we show disrespect towards any Guru or prophet, then these people belonging to such diverse religious backgrounds will not like to come and sit together in such an amicable manner.
That gentle man asked a little hesitantly,” Maharaj! Some people belongings to Sikh Community have propagated over here that you insult their religious scriptures. They accuse you of sitting atop Guru Granth Sahib.” On hearing his comments, Gurudev remained silent for a while. Then, trying to explain, he stated.” I cannot perceive as to how the educated class starts believing all this. People like us who belong to Indian culture cannot ever do such a thing. As you must know yourself that if by mistake we ever drop even an ordinary book on ground, we always pick it up, kiss it and place it on our heads in reverence. Guru Granth Sahib contains the holy message of our great Gurus. How can we ever dishonor it?”
His holiness further.” You attended the satsang yesterday. You must have observed that we do not display any religious book during our satsang. In the absence of a religious scripture, where is the question of keeping it either on top or at the bottom? We give due and equal respect to all the scriptures. We try to incorporate in our lives whatever is written in them and consider as a ritual, because we believe that the real worship of a scripture as a ritual, because we believe that the real worship of a scripture lies in leading one’s life according to the words written therein.”
“You too have a scripture by the name of Avtar Bani.” That gentleman asked. “It is being heard that a lot of objectionable things have been said about other religious in the same.”
Gurudev replied in this context,” Avtar Bani is written by Satguru Baba Avtar Singh ji. It has been in print for the last 20-25 years. Nobody ever raised any objection to it earlier. For the last one or two years, a few comments have been overheard. But till date, nobody has ever told us especially as to what their objections are. You must be aware that the Government had also stated that the objectionable parts in Avtar Bani must be reported so that the same can be investigated. Till date nobody has come forward with their objections. The fact is that there is nothing objectionable against any religious in it
The gentleman was completely satisfied with Gurudev’s answers and left after bowing.

YOUR QUESTION AND YOUR ANSWER
Demerits of Television for youngsters
The diversity of programmes available compels young viewers to have just sit and surf channels and find a suitable one. The television being a source of pastime and entertainment has become a bane rather than a boon, as used to be .Let’s imagine : if one day , one person spends a hour watching TV without gaining any useful information , then in one year he will waste 365 hours and in 10 year is 3605 hours. With that time, you can learn several language as well as finish some studying course. On the other hand, television programme are not always suitable for all ages. Sometimes , there are some movies contain sexual material and violence which affected the stormy phase of growing of children and teenagers and should not be watched ,even by some adults. It will be extremely dangerous if parents neglect their children to discover the TV programme themselves as they will immediately take influence of what they see . To rectify this situation , parents must supervise their children ‘s TV watching throughout their childhood and adolescence period. In the aspect of health , spending hours watching TV is harmful to your eyesight . Why don’t play some sport and breathe the fresh air .When your eyes are tired , you ‘d better let them rest than continue to paste them in the screen. “By Ashish Rana”
The younger mind is so much unstable that if any TV serial or movie or fashion leave footprints on their mind and it is very hard to erase it. As we take the example of recently released hindi movie GHAZINI, the younger generation are so much crazy for the hair style of Aamir Khan. Today’s youth spent lot of money only on the name of glamour. The younger generation thought that the adoption to TV characters may make them the celebrity one day. But they dont know that all glitters are not gold. TV spoils the future of the younger generation instead of awaring them about the actual facts of life. In colleges , the girls instead of worrying about studies, they are most worried in night about that what she wear in morning. In colleges , the girls instead of worrying about studies, they are most worried in night about that what she wear in morning. TV have also a big hand in raising crime and robbery. The newly developed techniques are shown in movies, example: DHOOM-1, DHOOM-2, JANNAT etc. And these are easily adopt by them to become rich and to live exclusively. The sexual harassment of girls are all the results of that which are shown on screen. The youngsters tried to adopt the style of smoking as in movie and they also developed the thoughts in mind to cheat others as in movie RACE. So, the Govt., as well as us, we should take action to banned these unsocial scenes or there is need to aware the youngsters.
§ “ By Parul Shahi”
Well, in today’s life n style TV has playing a major role in our life as far as our maximum time devotee is concerned we use to take every aspect in to two way’s because every object /thought have two ways’ to think which is negative & positive. Everything has made for human to make his life more comfortable n enjoyable wherein TV is the boss it’s an fact TV has numerous merits but it depends on our vision and thought how we take it. Let’s go by agenda DEMERITS OF TV FOR YOUNGSTER -when we know the merits than only we are able to describe his demerits. We as an human indulge in materialism wherein we always think n ahead to take more materialistic satisfaction in term of physically n mentally wherein TV is the most even I can say one n only abject who got this credit he always take our ambition high and pessimist which usably beyond our control resulting we r giving our commandment directly to the TV’s it took away from the target . If we take as an refreshment than it would be great chargeable of thoughts and energy but opposite sides are:
TV away the youngster from his life goal it would not allow them to take part of it
TV away to use/share GOD Knowledge for youngster.
TV take a place to break Sewa , sat sung and Simran too
TV makes us life debus
TV is always evolves into bad images which directly impact on youngster ideology
TV makes you the part of his family resulting break the relationships
TV directly impact on eye sight it weeks day by day
I would say TV should not to be HERO bcoz he will become youngster ZERO
(TV HERO BECOMING YOUNGESTER ZERO)this is the slogan for the Demerits of TV’s for Youngster .
I would request to the Lotus feet of BABA JI to bless me and all the youngster to achieve n makes effort to achieve his life Goal and gives an right way’s to deal with TV merits n demerits Although we have many merits of TV too as BABA ji VIchar is also coming thrice a week
“Rev. Naresh Rajan”
TV is a wonderful gadget and no one can overlook its advantages. But if this eye of the world is not properly used it can turn in to an idiot box and can do irreparable damaged to the youngsters in particular. some of the demerits of TV for youngsters are:
Watching TV for long hours makes the child passive, inactive and docile.
Children become fatty as they go on munching one or the other thing, often junk food, while watching TV.
The youngsters may lose interest in actual playing of the games because games become program of entertainment for watching only.
Children become introvert and unsociable as they do not get often mixed up with all the neighborhood children.
They may develop a tendency of non-hospitality as they dislike guest during their program of interest.
Children may even become disobedient to their parents because TV program is some time more important for them than the advice or order of parents.
The young minds become slave to TV ads. They are easily lured to buy junk foods and useless items. This tendency creeps into even their adult life.
When exposed to the unwanted dose sex and violence the young mind is likely to get corrupted with obscene ideas.
TV certainly has a bad effect on eyes.
Youngsters are likely to lose concentration on their studies.
“ Prof. Jindal Ji”
While moving about here and there, often we see the very blunt behavior among boys and girls or between boy and girl. Such behavior is not suitable in our culture. And when one asks about this to youngster then they say,” We are just friends and we are only enjoying our time.” Although these guys speak lie but the matter doesn’t close and questions remains that from where they are learning this type of blunt behavior. Are they getting this type of thought process from their parents who are very formal themselves. A mother who wears a very formal & decent suit or sari, can she teach her daughter to wears short tops and tight trousers??????? No, parents don’t teach these things. I think the reply is very simple, They learn from TV. Everything which is shown on TV is fictitious but youngsters forget this thing and try to apply that style into their practical life. In many films, we see the story revolving on extra marital affair. While watching the movie or after that movie, we too admit that love with someone else or love can happen anywhere anytime, after the wedding was wrong. This type of thinking which we are getting from Movies is very harmful for us. From films like Jane tu Jane na, youngsters try to behave like Actor or actress. In that movie, the end was with the patch up of lovers but youngsters forget this thing and try to use that friendly nature with their friend in a disguised way. Films like Kbhi Alvida Na Kehna, what a mean message has been given in that. That is just a film but youngster after watching this type of movies, are unable to control themselves and do the opposite from our culture.. This type of blunt environment, we will have to watch just not only in movies but in day to day life as well. Therefore there is need of sound vision. Make a required difference between your eyes and your mind.
“ Editor”
I would like to ask you a question to my friend, which arouse from my mind that is in spite of television also our forefathers lead a healthy life. I am ashamed to tell you that presently many people consider the possession of a television in his/her drawing room as a symbol of status. Another adverse effect is that some of the channels are broadcasting pornographic films and information, which leads the youths and their generation in to the depths of faults. These nay-living agents of Satan are only making their entrance through this media of boob tube. Thus this boob tube is really a curse to the society. The programs visualized on the television arouse horror and violence. On visualizing these types of programmes the children tend to become more violent prejudice that may ultimately lead to the path of terrorism. I would like to end my words by highlighting the words of that is “Television is a bad asset to the people like drinking and smoking.”

COVER STORY: THE UPANISADS
The Upnisads are the cornerstone of India Philosophy. These are said to contain references of divine revelations of ancient sages of india who tught the Doctrine of the Ultimate Reality to seekers. Among India’s sacred books, Upnisads occupy a very special place. Upnisads literlly means:
UP – approach the techer
NI – knowledge of God is certain
SAD – ignorance is destroyed
The ancient wisdom of Vedanta is enshrined in the Upnisads. Vedanta means the end of the Veda. In Upnisads is described the final state of spiritual awakeing possible to a human mind. The Relity of the Upnisads is a moral and the core philosophy is nothing but pure remembrance and vision of God. A human being is to remember what he has forgotton i.e. his true nature akin of God. Knowledge and perception of God is pre-requisite for remembrance.
The discussion of Nachiketa with the god of death in the Kathopanisad is very informative. Nachiketas wants to know as to what part of organism survives the death and what becomes of that. The god of death grants him all the material boons, but Nachiketa is not satidfied; instead, wants to have Brahaman knowledge only. Instead of finding solace in the material glamour, the devotee Nachiketa insists on the knowledge of God, the source of eternal happiness:
That one Supreme Ruler, the Soul of all beings,
Who makes His one form manifold…. Those wise
Men who perceive Him as existing in their own self,
To them belongs eternal happiness, and to none else. Kathopanishad 5:12
It is stressed in the Upnisads that the knowledge of God is possible only through an able teacher who himseld knows God and can make others know Him. Need of knowing God is stressed again and again. Without knowing, the worship of God is not conveivable as per the teachings of the Upnisads. the importance and necessity of the Teacher is mentuioned repeatedly. It is also stressed that the teacher should be accorded equal devotion as is given to God Himself. During the times of Upnisads, the inner devotion of the seeker was a pre-requisite for imparting him this knowledge.
He is not grasped by the eye nor even by speech nor by other sense-organs,
Nor by austerity nor by work, but when one’s nature is purified by the light of knowledge then alone hem by medication, sees Him who is without parts.
Mundakopanisad 3.1.8
Stressing the need of a living Guru the Upnisads narrates an instance. A teacher asked his disciple to get him water to drink. The disciple brought a clean ‘Lota’ of water and placed in his front. “what is this? Asked the Guru. “But did I ask you for a ‘Lota’? or for water? Take the Lota away and bring me the water.”
“How is it possible to bring water without Lota?” asked the disciple. “Never mind” said the Guru. “No body can carry water without a vessel. So too, for conveying the knowledge of Truth it is through the body of Guru.”
Upanisad, it is declared that the Self cannot be attained by scriptural knowledge, chanting of hymns or through Yoga. But the present day followers are upholding the same and repeating the forbidden acts.
Extra Knock: Baba Farid Ji
At birth his parents named him Farid-ud-Din Masaud, but he is mostly revered as Baba Farid of Pak Pattan. When Farid was a few years old his mother taught him his prayers. The boy asked what was gained by his prayers. His mother replied 'sugar'. She used to hide some sugar crystals under his prayer-carpet, and, when he had finished his prayers, she would draw it forth and give it to Farid as a reward for his devotion. On one occasion, when his mother was absent, he prayed a great deal, and, it is said, he found a correspondingly greater supply of sugar under his carpet. Please with the size of his 'reward' he ate some himself and shared the the rest with his playfellows. He related the circumstance to his mother on her return and as she had forgot to place his usual reward under his prayer mat she realized it wa a miraculous gift from God, so she gave him the surname Shakar Ganj, meaning a "treasury of sugar".
There is a great deal known or written regarding the original Shaikh Farid. Two genealogies of Shaikh Farid, subsequently called Farid Shakar Ganj, are given in the Jawahir-i-Faridi - one spiritual, the other temporal. He received his spiritual position from his priest Khwaja Qutub-ul-din Bakhtiyar Ushi of Dihli, whose spiritual predecessors derive in an unbroken line from the Prophet of Makka. Farid's temporal or family genealogy is traced back through princes and kings to Hazrat Amir-ul-Mumanin Umr-bin-ul Khitab Qureshi Makki Faruqi, the second Khalifa of the Muslim.
Nizam-ul-Din Auliya, a disciple of Farid, relates a legend of a robber who went to Farid's mother's house to steal. On beginning his operations he lost his sight. He then cried out that there must be some saint or miracle-worker present. He vowed that, if his sight was restored, he would renounce thieving and become a good Muhammadan. On hearing his vow Miriam prayed for him, and his sight was restored. He went home, and returned to her the following morning with an offering of milk. Accompanied by his wife and children, he expressed a desire that they should all become Muhammadans. Miriam caused his wishes in this respect to be gratified, with the result that thay all became holy. In reply to her, he said his name was Chawa. His shrine among others in that locality has subsequently became a place of devout pilgrimage.
When Farid was conceived, his mother used to spend her days and nights in prayer. He was born at Kothiwal on the first day of the month of Ramzan the Muslim religions most sacred month, A.H. 569 (1173). The sky that night was dark and cloudy, and the moon, whose appearance as the “pehli ka chaand” (the new moon) when the moon is seen in the western sky as a faint and delicate white curve which marks the beginning of Ramzan, the Muslim period of daylight fasting. Because the moon could not be seen, it must be seen to begin Ramzan, the devotees did not know when to begin their fast.
Then a holy man arrived reporting that a wonderful son had been born to Jamal-ul-Sulaiman and if the infant suckled, the time for fasting had not yet begun, but if, on the contrary he refused the breast, then all good Muhammadans must fast. Farid did not suckle, and so it was apparent the fast had begun. During the whole month of Ramzan, it is said, the infant only took milk by night in the Muhammadan fashion and fasted by day.
When Baba Farid was 16 years old, he went to Hajj and stayed in the house of Abdul Rahim Ansari. Since Baba Farid ji use to talk in Punjabi, an unkempt faqir on hearing Farid’s language foretold the Boy’s subsequent greatness. After Farid came back to Punjab, he was sent to Khwaja Qutub-ud-Din Bakhtiar Kaki at Delhi to learn theology. Qutub-ud-din, on finding Baba Farid deficient in scholarship sent him to the shrine of Abdul Shakur of Sarsa, near Delhi to finish his education. On that occasion Baba Farid repeated the following.
O Farid, thou hast not walked in God’s way; therefore He hath no appeared unto thee Who is there who hath knocked at God’s door for whom it hath not been opened Lost thy life on the way of the Friend if thou desire to be even as those holy men.
Baba Farid died of Pneumonia on the fifth day of the month of Muharram, CE 1266. The date of Baba Farid's death is commemorated by chronograms (a) Farid Asari (b) Auliye Khudai. He was unique, a saint of God. Baba Farid was buried outside the town of Pak Pattan at a place called Martyr's Grave. Guru Nanak’s contemporary was Baba Sheikh Farid Sani, or the second Sheikh Farid, 6th in succession of Baba Farid Shaikh Shakarganj.
A Student asked Baba Farid if singing was lawful and proper. He replied that, according to Islam, it was certainly unlawful, but its propriety was still a matter of discussion. Nizam-ud-Dauliya told Nasir-ud-din, a disciple of his, that one day when he went to visit Baba Farid he stood at his door, and saw him dancing as he sang the following:
I wish ever to live in Thy love, O God. If I become the dust under Thy feet, I shall live I thy slave desire none but Thee in both worlds; For Thee I will live and for Thee I will die.
The following couplet was a favorite of Baba Farid’s
Not every heart is capable of finding the secret of God’s love. There are not pearls in every sea; there is not gold in every mine.

CHHOTTI – CHHOTTI
JARURI BAATEIN
Below are some of the ‘Do’s and Don'ts’ that are necessary to enjoy Holi to its fullest
DO
Sunglasses go a long way in keeping your eyes safe from the harmful chemicals of the colors.
Wear old and ragged clothes that you can be at easily discard while playing Holi, as your clothes may never look wearable again with all those color stains.
Brightly collared and dark collared clothes are preferable for the mood of the day.
Wear full-sleeved t-shirt or shirts that cover your arms fully. Socks will be a good idea too.
Always put some amount of oil on your head and body. Apply thick coating of paint on your nails- both in fingers and toes so that they remain protected.
Granted that it is almost impossible to save you face from attack of colors, so while being attacked, keep eyes and lips tightly closed.
If you are traveling, keep the car windows tightly shut. Better still; avoid traveling on Dhuledi, the day of playing colors.
Use a hat, cap or anything like that to protect your hair from being collared with hard-to Rinse dyes.
Do not bump into the frenzied group of mob if you take to streets. Better you cross the Road to the sidewalk across. Or, simply stay at a safe distance.
While washing off the color, use lukewarm water and keep your eyes and lips tightly Closed
Don’t
Discourage your children to play Holi with eggs, mud or gutter water. Never turn a blind eye to such unclean ways of celebration.
Avoid use of abir as it has flakes of mica.
If you do not want your children and family to participate in the revelry, have a nice and quiet holiday at home. Your children should be confident enough to take the decision of not participating in the Holi celebrations. Teach them not to fall prey to pressure.
Teach your children to respect other’s independence during Holi. For instance, you should stop your children from forcing Holi celebrations on a hesitant neighbor.
If you fancy a glass of bhang (grass of the opium plant mashed and mixed with milk or sweets), go ahead. But let your family not get carried away. Your children should not get addicted to this intoxicating drink. Holi revelry should be contained within decent limits.
Avoid loud and rowdy Holi parties, which might spoil the family environment. Children get accustomed to such parties at a very early age and tend to repeat the same type of celebrations later in life.
Don’t walk alone on the streets on the Holi day. You’ll be a sure target for miscreants. . Play Holi only with a group of close friends and relatives as against strangers.
Keep a big bucket of water handy for your children, so that they do not resort to gutter water and other unclean sources. “Ashish Rana”
