When birds fight it is the ears that suffer; but when people fight it is the children who suffer.
Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.

EDITORIAL

Dear Readers, first of all, I am extending my good wishes to all of you on the eve of Baisakhi. Baisakhi Festival falls on April 13th or April 14th and marks the beginning of the solar year. People of North India, particularly Punjab thank God for good harvest. Baisakhi has special significance for Sikhs as on this day in 1699, tenth Guru Gobind Singh Ji organized the order of the Khalsa.

Vishu Festival heralds the beginning of Malayalese New Year and is celebrated in a big way in the state of Kerala and the adjoining areas of Tamil Nadu. As per the Gregorian calendar Vishu falls on the 14 April. Traditional people of Kerala celebrated Vishu with lot of joy and mirth. One very interesting custom of Vishu is Vishukani or Kani Kanal (first sight). Under this tradition there is a prescribed list of items that people see first thing on a Vishu morning. The custom stems from the strong belief of the people of Kerala that good things seen on the New Year day brings good luck for the entire year.

Dear readers, lets take a resolution that we will be aware of the real meaning of all festivals and celebrates these all with open heart and see all these to with equal vision, the vision of humanity. Time is altering very fast but always one has to memorize his or his nation’s history because I think that the person those remember the history, then history remember them.

Regarding the topic of this edition. A gardener is watering the plants to grow. If he waters in excess then that water will be damaging for plant similarly parents should love their children but always maintaining a balance means if they ignore all mistakes of their children then their children can’t become good human being. I think that parents should watch out all the activities of their children with theft eyes especially when children are with their friends. Parents should watch out their reactions at all.

I specially thanks to Rev. Yatin Jaitely, an open hearted & very cooperative person and Rev. Charnjit Kaur Ji, a loftiest person, who have been contributed to the completion of this magazine. I extent my heartiest thanks to writers as well as the readers of “Cup of Knowledge” with whose kind cooperation this edition is going to be published successfully.

PARABLE

There are two fields; one has wheat and the other opium. Hard work is needed in growing both the crops. Opium perhaps needs more effort than wheat. But if we see the result, wheat fills the empty stomachs and satiates hunger, while opium is an intoxicant which is harmful for human body and may cause even death. Hence, the saints always prefer the actions that may produce good for all.

UNIVERSAL BROTHERHOOD – SANT NIRANKARI MISSION
Biography of Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji Maharaj
Baba Gurbachan Singh was born on December 10, 1930 in Peshawar, now in Pakistan. He received boundless love and affection from his parents. Baba Avtar Singh and Jagat Mata Budhwanti as also from the True Master, Baba Buta Singh, then residing with the family.
Right from his infancy, the child Gurbachan manifested rare and remarkable qualities. These qualities comprised sensitiveness to human sorrow and suffering, sympathy for the afflicted, avoidance of all disputes and discords and malice as also appreciation of fine traits in others.

CHILDHOOD
Gurbachan was a shining student. After doing his Middle from Peshawar, he ‘matriculated’ from the Khalsa School, Rawalpindi, He could not pursue his studies further, because of the turmoil following the Partition of India. He, however, acquired rich and rare experience of practical life by his wisdom and intelligence.
PARTITION
During the turbulent days preceding the Partition, everybody wished to be relieved of his pressing parental responsibilities speedily. Accordingly, on April 22, 1947, Bhai Manna Singh solemnized the marriage of his daughter, Kulwant Kaur, with Gurbachan Singh at a simple ceremony. Kulwant kaur who subsequently became popular as Nirankari Rajmata, marched shoulder to shoulder with her husband. She proved to be an ideal wife and lifemate.
STRUGGLE IN DELHI
All the members of Babaji’s family and their relations gradually settled down in Delhi. While a student of eighth class in Rawalpindi, he had acquired some experience and interest in the auto-parts business. Unmindful of his comfortable living in Pakistan, Babaji plunged into this business with the little money left with him. He would purchase and sell auto-parts riding on a bike, braving the sun, rain and cold. Who could imagine that this young Gurbachan would one day rule the hearts of millions and become an emancipator of mankind.
NOMINATION AS HEAD
Addressing a congregation on December 3,1962, on the eve of his departure for Bombay, Baba Avtar Singh said, ‘’ Henceforth, Gurbachan Singh will be addressed as Baba Ji and not as ‘’Seth Ji ‘’ or ‘’ Bhapa Ji ‘’. He should be revered as I am ‘’. However, he was formally appointed as Head of the Mission on November 5, 1963. This was a total surprise for the young Gurbachan Singh, for the always considered himself just a humble devotee, not competent enough to shoulder such a stupendous responsibility. His maiden address to the congregation reflected this very sentiment.
FIRST MUSSOORIE CONFERENCE
Immediately after his nominations the True Master, Baba Gurbachan Singh speeded up the tempo of preachings, thus attracting large numbers to the Mission.
At the First Mussoorie Conference, held on July 17&18, 1965, a number of important decisions were taken to accelerate the pace of preachings. To this end, the country was divided into several zones and mukhis (unit heads), Parmukhs (area Heads) and Zonal Incharges were nominated. As suggested by the devotees from foreign countries, it was also decided to undertake missionary tours abroad.
WORLD-WIDE TOURS
It is not an easy task to propagate one’s message among the foreigners owing to difficulties of language and other kindred constraints. But disregarding all such difficulties, Babaji vigorously pursued his missionary activities in distant countries. Thus a series of foreign tours for regeneration of mankind were undertaken form 1967 to 1977.
BABA AVTAR SINGH DEPARTS
On September 17, 1969, Baba Avtar Singh left for his heavenly abode. Babaji also wished to rid the society of the evil of show and ostentation. Accordingly the dead body of Baba Avtar Singh was solemnly cremated at the Electric Crematorium Mahatama Gandhi Road, Delhi in the forenoon of 19th September, 1969.
Contrary to convention, no special importance is given to 17th September, the day when Baba Avtar Singh passed away. Instead, 15th August is observed every year as Mukti Parva (Salvation Day) to pay homage to Baba Avtar Singh as well as to other devotees of the Mission and to draw inspiration from their lives. Thus Baba Gurbachan Singh did not follow the beaten track. He was so dynamic and radical.
SECOND MUSSORRIE CONFERENCE
Accordingly, Babaji convened the second Mussoorie Conference on May 14-16, 1973. About 500 delegates from India and abroad participated in it. In his opening address, Babaji desired that everyone should express his/her views freely and frankly and without any inhibition. To be continued…...in next edition

YOUR QUESTION AND YOUR ANSWER

Steps should be taken by parents to make their children good human being:

It is a saying that heredity & environment pay an important role to make the life of a child. A child starts to learn from mother’s womb. History tells us that Abhimanyu learn the path to enter the chakrvu when he was in mother’s womb. Shiva Ji became a great soldier due to the teaching of his mother. In the same way, in the field of devotion, if not fully but partially, parents do have impact of religious characteristics on their young ones.

Secondly environment means surroundings of person, also plays an important role to build the character of a child. Devotion starts from home itself. Respect, tolerance, love, humbleness, politeness & understanding are the basic foundation of a home. These are basic and strong part of a society and a country also. It is a saying that if you demand respect, you should command respect. If parents will respect children then in return, they will automatically get respect from their children. When a child respects their parents, then he can give respect to the people of the outer world. Our True master says to love all, means love is not selfish. That house is heaven where love exists. When love enters in person’s heart, he becomes a moving worship place.

It is very easy to say that in present generation, parents understand their young ones but for this they need to understand psychology of their children & need to finish all the barriers which prevail in between them. In this way the mutual understanding between parents & children will try to finish the generation gap.

Tolerance teaches us to impose a control on wayward impulses. The spirit of tolerance also induces the children to let the other man to follow his own pattern of life & philosophy. Such an attitude of tolerance mitigates & fissures in human relations and enhances joy and pleasure. As the different flowers emitting their peculiar frafrance.

With the grace of our True master Satguru Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj, these steps are being taken by parents in Nirankari Mission because our True master is currently crusading for the generation of all these moral values. His mystic code carries certain novel features, which makes an enduring impact on human heart. No discrimination is made on the account of age, caste, colour, sex & creed. His disciples even young children and youth are deeply imbued with God consciousness and humanism. Their hands are only trained invariably to touch and caress the feet of fellow devotees. How can such caressing hands ever be lifted to strike or injure anyone?

Let’s pray the Holy Feet of Baba Ji that His every disciple either a child or a parent may act according to His commands.

CAREER KNOCK
Do's and Don'ts of Group Discussion
1. Prior to the entering the door, adjust your attire so that it falls well.
2. Before entering enquire by saying, “May I come in sir/madam”.
3. If the door was closed before you entered, make sure you shut the door behind you softly.
4. Face the panel and confidently say ‘Good day sir/madam’.
5. If the members of the interview board want to shake hands, then offer a firm grip first maintaining eye contact and a smile.
6. Seek permission to sit down. If the interviewers are standing, wait for them to sit down first before sitting.
7. A group discussion is your chance to be more vocal. The evaluator wants to hear you speak.
8. Take time to organize your thoughts. Think of what you are going to say.
9. Seek clarification if you have any doubts regarding the subject.
10. Don't start speaking until you have clearly understood and analyzed the subject. Work out various strategies to help you make an entry: initiate the discussion or agree with someone else's point and then move onto express your views.
11. Opening the discussion is not the only way of gaining attention and recognition. If you do not give valuable insights during the discussion, all your efforts of initiating the discussion will be in vain.
12. Your body language says a lot about you - your gestures and mannerisms are more likely to reflect your attitude than what you say.
13. Language skills are important only to the effect as to how you get your points across clearly and fluently.
14. Be assertive not dominating; try to maintain a balanced tone in your discussion and analysis.
15. Don't lose your cool if anyone says anything you object to. The key is to stay objective: Don't take the discussion personally.
16. Always be polite: Try to avoid using extreme phrases like: 'I strongly object' or 'I disagree'. Instead try phrases like: 'I would like to share my views on...' or 'One difference between your point and mine...' or "I beg to differ with you".
17. Brush up on your leadership skills; motivate the other members of the team to speak (this surely does not mean that the only thing that you do in the GD is to say "let us hear what the young lady with the blue scarf has to say," or "Raghu, let us hear your views" - Essentially be subtle), and listen to their views. Be receptive to others' opinions and do not be abrasive or aggressive.
18. If you have a group of like-minded friends, you can have a mock group discussion where you can learn from each other through giving and receiving feedback.
19. Apart from the above points, the panel will also judge team members for their alertness and presence of mind, problem-solving abilities, ability to work as a team without alienating certain members, and creativity.

COVER STORY: Bhagvat Gita

The Gita epitomizes his teachings pertaining to the Formless Doctrine and the style of life one should live. The occasion of Gita’s philosophy was the infatuation of Arjuna in the battlefield of Kurukshetra when he fell a prey to serious inaction and wanted to run away from his bounden duty of fighting the righteous war. Lord Krishna tried various methods, but could not completely convince Arjuna. Ultimately he had to reveal his true self by manifesting the Ultimate Reality of cosmos in Its Cosmic Expanse. This Revelation of the ultimate substance is the core, round which the teachings of the Gita revolve.

This Universal Form is present everywhere. As we are all the time moving, talking and walking in it, it is but natural that if somebody can make us recognise its presence, we will be able to see it at all places. It was this respect when Arjuna described his vision like this:

Yonder space between heaven and earth and all
The quarters are filled by You alone. Seeing this
marvellous, dreadful Form of Yours, O mighty
Lord, all the three worlds fell greatly alarmed.

The Hindu religious world is replete with gods. Lord Krishna clarified this confusion once for all. He says:

Those who take to the worship of gods go to
the gods; those who worship the manes reach the
manes; those who adore the spirits reach the spirits
and those who worship Me attain Me (That is why devotes are not subjected to birth and death.)

Lord Krishna is the Unborn, Imperishable Supreme Spirit and the ignorant folk don’t recognise Him as such and take him as one subject to birth and death. He says:

Veiled by My yogamaya (divine potency)
I am not manifest to all. Hence these ignorant
folk do not recognise Me as the unborn and
imperishable Supreme Spirit (i.e. take Me to
Be subject to birth and death).

Arjuna, all the words form Brahmaloka
(the abode of Brahma) downwards are subject to
appearance and disappearance. But, O son of
Kunti, on attaining Me there is no rebirth. (For
I am beyond Time, and regions like Brahmaloka,
Being subject to time are the impermanent).

Arjuna, in this mortal world I cannot be
seen in this Form by anyone else than
you, either through the study of Vedas,
or of rituals, or again through gifts,
sacrifices, or austere penances.

Lord Krishna is not at all a Hindu prophet only. To declare Him a prophet of the Hindus alone is to demote and down-grade Him. Again to reduce Him to physical form and confining Him to temples is an act of downgrading. The Cosmos is His temple, and the inner submission is the only mode of worship. If we cannot know Him as Cosmic Being, let us not at least adulterate His concept and misinterpret His doctrine contained in the Gita which we claim to worship and follow.

As the religious scenario exists today, we worship Lord Krishna, but ignore his Gita but ignore his Gita; we worship Gita but ignore its teaching, we worship its teaching – but ignore its essence. The essence is to cognize the Cosmic, formless aspect of Lord Krishna and then to surrender all our faiths unto him. This alone shall bring out the harmony underlying the cultural diversities and reconcile the angularities of modern life thereby ushering into an era of peace, prosperity and unification of Mankind.

Religion is a way of life and attitude to the universe. It brings man into closer touch with the inner nature of reality. Statements of fact made in its name are untrue in detail, but often contain some truth at their core. Science is also a way of life and an attitude to the universe. It is concerned with everything but the nature of reality. Statements of fact made in its name are generally right in detail, but can only reveal the form and not the real nature of existence. The wise man regulates his conduct by the theories of both religion and science. But he regards these theories not as statements of fact, but as art forms.
J.B.S. Haldane"Science and Theology as Art Forms," Possible Worlds and Other Papers (1927)

Extra Knock: Risk Management:

Risk Management Department is required for every Company Listed on Stock Exchange. This is as per the Clause 49 of Listing agreement. In this case the Chairman or CEO of the Company certifies in its Quarterly return to Stock Exchange that the Risk Minimization Procedures are in place and effective. The importance of Risk management can be viewed from the Satyam case where the lack of commitment to Risk Management and Corporate Governance was the reason for its Failure.

As I am working in the Company which belongs to Construction Industry (EPC), basically four types of Risk are identified in this type of Industry.

Strategic Risk – This Risk is identified at the Top Level / Strategic Level of Management. Like whether to go in for a particular venture or new Industry or different processes. The Risks associated with that new process. Identifying the ways or means to mitigate it.
Project Risk – It is basically the Operational Risks that the Company carries. Since the Construction Company is into various Projects which are undertaken both in India and Overseas. The level of Risks changes with respect to Nature of Project. In this case First Risk are identified at initial level at the time of bidding the project. For Estimating the Cost, various Risk Factors are taken into consideration and the adequate amount of Contingency is built in the Project Cost. This Contingency which is in Percentage Terms is used to cover the Risks which are identified and if it materializes it will be covered from that contingency. If such Risks does not materializes, then the Contingency so provided will be converted into Profit. The Contingency is calculated using the Simulation Techniques. It takes the combination of different costs like Optimistic Cost, Most Likely Cost and Pessimistic Cost and work out the Total Project Cost at different Probabilities. To cover that difference in cost Contingency is developed.
Financial Reporting Risk – The compliance with Correct Financial Reporting is very important. As various Financial Reports are published in News Papers or submitted to Government Authorities, SEBI in the form of Returns, Issue of Prospectus for subscription of Shares. The information contained their in should not contain any Material Misstatement affecting the decisions of users of such information. Therefore, measures should be taken to ensure correct reporting of Financial Data.
Compliance Risk – Compliance Tool is required in the Organization to ensure that various Returns like Tax Returns, TDS Returns, Excise Returns, Service Tax Returns or Compliance with Other Laws which are required to be complied within due dates are complied or not. Various Softwares like En Force are used for that. The software contains the Checklist of Various laws applicable to particular industry and the departments which are required to ensure its compliance are given alerts at different levels in the department so that the particular Return which is required as per law is filed within time.
