PARABLE
In villages, women fetch water from the well. They walk with the pitchers on their heads, they go on talking among themselves and yet they keep their mind focused on the pitchers. They walk so carefully that they do not allow the pitchers to fall down and get broken. Likewise, an enlightened person, even while performing normal vocations of life, keeps his mind focused on the formless omnipresent God.
UNIVERSAL BROTHERHOOD – SANT NIRANKARI MISSION
HISTORY AND IDEOLOGY
Today when the world is surrounded by the gloomy clouds of ignorance, superstitions, ego, jealousy, hatred and violence wherein every individual, group and nation feels insecure and unstable, the Sant Nirankari Mission shows the way that certainly leads to lasting peace and happiness. Transcending all religious taboos, caste prejudices and other layers dividing human society, it aims at uniting mankind as one single fraternity i.e. Universal brotherhood based on the oneness of the Supreme Gather, God.
As a movement of spiritual awakening Sant Nirankari Mission dates back to 1929, when Baba Buta Singh Ji started it in Peshawar, now in Pakistan. He started the movement so that every individual could realize the Ultimate Truth and get rid of the shackles of superstitions finding expression in all kinds of rites and rituals.
When Baba Buta Singh ji breathed his last in 1943, the responsibility to lead the Mission as its Spiritual Mentor fell on the shoulders of Baba Avtar Singh Ji.
Baba Avtar Singh Ji migrated to Delhi in 1947 when India was portioned. He gave the Mission sound organizational Base. He got the Sant Nirankari Mandal registered in 1948 with its Headquarters in Delhi.
In 1962, Baba Avtar Singh Ji decided to revert and work as ordinary Missionary, while Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji followed as the next spiritual head of the Mission. Baba Avtar Singh Ji surrendered to him completely as the benevolent custodian of Divine Knowledge. By his conduct, he showed how an ideal disciple should live by the Divine Truth revealed by Satguru.
Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji spread the Mission not only in India but overseas also. It was during his time that the first sapling of the mission overseas was planted in UK in 1967.
As in the case of any radical crusade for truth and against falsehood or large – scale popular movement for spiritual awakening, social reforms and moral regeneration in the world, the Mission also had its share of opposition, false propaganda and violent attacks. Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji, however, did not deter because he was always confident that the truth was by his side and was bound to prevail in the long run. He fell to the bullets of the orthodox fanatics in Delhi on April 24, 1980.
Baba Gurbachan Singh ji was succeeded by the present Head of the Mission. His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh ji Maharaj, who came as the greatest source of solace to the otherwise disturbed minds of Nirankaris. He displayed an utmost sense of patience and tolerance. The Mission is flourishing by leaps and bounds day by day across the globe, under the divine stewardship of his Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj.
CONVERSATION:
One day, Baba ji discussed ‘salvation’ during one of his discourses and stated that salvation can be attained only through God-Knowledge. After the conclusion of the congregation, a gentleman approached His Holiness and said” I was delighted to hear your discourse today. I also liked your views on God-knowledge as well as salvation. But if you will kindly excuse me, I did not understand one point made by you. You said in your discourses that various religious practices i.e. sacrifices, rites and rituals, fasts, acts of charity, recitation of holy scriptures and other such modes of worship affirmed by religious books can not bestow salvation; whereas our ancient seers and sages advocated them strongly.
After listening to the gentleman’s words, Gurudev said in a polite manner, “Of course, I did not ask anybody to give up these practices. My humble request was only this much that the practice of such rituals cannot bestow salvation. Salvation can be attained only through God-Knowledge. These practices have their own significances but they are no an alternative to God-Knowledge.
Satguru stated further,” Truly speaking, today we have forgotten the real message behind these practices. We have lost sight of their hidden significances. These practices have taken the shape of mere rites and rituals. We are following them either as habit or under social pressure. We are not perceiving their true meaning. You will agree to the fact that if we do anything without thinking or realizing its meaning, it might harms us more than help us. For examples, all the drugs at a doctor’s clinic are life-saving drugs, but the same can be life-threatening to someone who is ignorant and takes them without consulting the doctor. In the same manner, these beneficial practices, it performed in an ignorant manner might not prove to be useful.”
All these practices are mainly related either to our body or social life. Some of them are related to religious too. But they have very little connection with our spiritual life. If some of then do have any relevance, then those practices ought to be practiced only after knowing God.
The Yoga postures, fasts etc keep our body fit. Charity and donations help in the social works of running schools, colleges, and hospitals etc which benefit general public. Sacrifices help in keeping the environment clean and getting rid of pollution. Recitation, contemplation and evening prayer can be called religious practices but they can not perform with God-Knowledge because till the time we don’t know God, how can we contemplate Him? Whatever practices are being performed by a common man today are not religious practices in reality but a mere show of them. Because of his blind faith, man is performing like a machine, without knowing their reality. Now you can tell me as to how can such practices bring salvation? I humbly believe that salvation is lined with soul and God. When a soul merges in God after attaining God-realization. It frees itself from transmigration and this only is called salvation.
Thus convinced, that gentleman bowed humbly and left the place.

CAREER KNOCK
IMPORTANT TIPS FOR INTERVIEW – By Ashish Rana
Ø Tell me about yourself
You walk into the interview room, shake hands with your interviewer and sit down with your best interviewing smile on. Guess what their first question is? "Tell me about yourself."
Do you "wing it" and actually tell all manner of things about yourself? Will you spend the next 5 minutes rambling on about what an easy-going, loyal, dedicated, hard working employee you've been? If this is the case, you stand a good chance of having bored your interviewer to death thus creating a negative first impression
Because it's such a common interview question, it's strange that more candidates don't spend the time to prepare for exactly how to answer it. Perhaps because the question seems so disarming and informal, we drop our guard and shift into ramble mode. Resist all temptation to do so.
Your interviewer is not looking for a 10-minute dissertation here. Instead, offer a razor sharp sentence or two that sets the stage for further discussion and sets you apart from your competitors.
Your Unique Selling Proposition (USP)
Give them "your synopsis about you" answer, specifically your Unique Selling Proposition. Known as a personal branding or a value-added statement, the USP is a succinct, one-sentence description of who you are, your biggest strength and the major benefit that a company will derive from this strength. Here is an example of a Unique Selling Proposition: "I'm a seasoned Retail Manager strong in developing training programs and loss prevention techniques that have resulted in revenue savings of over $2.3Million for (employer's name) during the past 11 years.”
What a difference you've made with this statement. Your interviewer is now sitting forward in her chair giving you her full attention. At this point, you might add the following sentence: "I'd like to discuss how I might be able to do something like that for you." The ball is now back in her court and you have the beginnings of a real discussion and not an interrogation process.
Be Specific
The key is that you must lead with your strongest benefit to the employer. Be specific and don't wander about with some laundry list of skills or talents. Be sure to put a monetary value on your work if at all possible and be ready with details when you're called upon. Give an estimated value to the $$ you've either helped to make or save for your employer.
Be Prepared
When you walk into an interview, remember to always expect the "tell me about yourself" question. Prepare ahead of time by developing your own personal branding statement that clearly tells who you are, your major strength and the clear benefit that your employer received. The advantages of this approach are
that you'll quickly gain their attention and interest them in knowing more. You'll separate yourself from your competitors. You'll also have a higher chance of being positively remembered and hired.
Ø What is your biggest weakness?
When you're asked what your greatest weakness is, try to turn a negative into a positive. For example, a sense of urgency to get projects completed or wanting to triple-check every item in a spreadsheet can be turned into a strength i.e. you are a candidate who will make sure that the project is done on time and your work will be close to perfect. Best possible answers.
Being organized wasn't my strongest point, but I implemented a time management system that really helped my organization skills.
I like to make sure that my work is perfect, so I tend to perhaps spend a little too much time checking it. However, I've come to a good balance by setting up a system to ensure everything is done correctly the first time.
I used to wait until the last minute to set appointments for the coming week, but I realized that scheduling in advance makes much more sense
Ø What is your greatest strength?
This is one of the easier interview questions you'll be asked. When you are asked questions about your strengths, it's important to discuss attributes that will qualify you for the job. The best way to respond is to describe the skills and experience that directly correlate with the job you are applying for. Best possible answers.
When I'm working on a project, I don't want just to meet deadlines. Rather, I prefer to complete the project well ahead of schedule.
I have exceeded my sales goals every quarter and I've earned a bonus each year since I started with my current employer.
My time management skills are excellent and I'm organized, efficient, and take pride in excelling at my work
Ø How do you handle stress and pressure?
Stress is very important to me. With stress, I do the best possible job. The appropriate way to deal with stress is to make sure I have the correct balance between good stress and bad stress. I need good stress to stay motivated and productive.
I react to situations, rather than to stress. That way, the situation is handled and doesn't become stressful.
I actually work better under pressure and I've found that I enjoy working in a challenging environment.
From a personal perspective, I manage stress by visiting the gym every evening. It's a great stress reducer.
Prioritizing my responsibilities so I have a clear idea of what needs to be done when, has helped me effectively manage pressure on the job.
Ø What motivates you?
I've always been motivated by the desire to do a good job at whatever position I'm in. I want to excel and to be successful in my job, both for my own personal satisfaction and for my employer.
I have always wanted to ensure that my company's clients get the best customer service I can provide. I've always felt that it's important, both to me personally, and for the company and the clients, to provide a positive customer experience.
I have spent my career in sales, typically in commission-based positions, and compensation.
Ø What are your salary expectations?
Once you know what you should be earning, how do you go about getting it? Start by being very patient. When interviewing for a new position, do your best not to bring up compensation until the employer makes you an offer. If you're asked what your salary requirements are, say that they are open based upon the position and the overall compensation package. Or tell the employer you'd like to know more about the responsibilities and the challenges of the job prior to discussing salary. Another option is to give the employer a salary range based upon the salary research you've done up front. Once you've received the offer you don't need to accept (or reject) it right away. A simple "I need to think it over" can get you an increase in the original offer.
And if you're ambivalent about the position a "no" can bring you a better offer too. I turned down a position I knew I didn't want, regardless of salary, and received three follow-up phone calls upping the compensation package. Be careful though, if you do definitely need that new job there's a risk that the employer may accept your declining the position and move on to the next candidate.

Score maximum in accountancy
Accountancy is one of the most scoring subjects for students of the commerce stream. To score maximum marks in the CBSE class XII accountancy paper, students should keep in mind the following while studying for the paper and writing the examination:
1) Read questions very carefully and answer only what is the required. For instance, from the chapter on ‘Cash Flow Statement’ sometimes only cash from operating activities is asked for.
2) There is very high probability of a pro rata problem from the chapter ‘Issue of Shares’
3) While attempting numerical questions, make sure you prepare a pro forma (in case of passing Journal Entries, Ledger account, Balance Sheet etc.) Also you must write narrations while passing journal entries. Other wise, you lose 25 per cent marks per question.
4) All numerical figures should be aligned to the right and be legible.
5) Be precise while attempting the one mark questions. These must be answered in one line only.
6) Go slow and steady while doing calculations as figures are generally given in lakhs and crores in questions from the chapter on debentures.
7) Clearly show working notes at the end of each questions (wherever required). For example, in a pro rata problem, calculations showing the number of shares allotted should be noticeable.
8) There is generally a choice between the questions on admission and retirement of partner. In both the cases, students should take special care while calculating the amount of the provision for bad debts in the revaluation account.
9) From ‘Analysis of financial statements’ in addition to one six-mark question, one- three and four mark questions can be asked.
10) Solve the sample papers issued by the CBSE for practice so that you can plan that how much time is to be devoted on each part of the question paper.

COVER STORY: THE VEDAS
The Vedas are said to be the oldest scriptures of mankind. They contain the history of the human race in all its entirety from creation onwards to the Creator Himself. Presently, we are concerned with the philosophy of One God as such. Generally, there is mis-conception about the Vedas that they are polytheistic which means that there is worship of many god and goddesses. A close perusal of the Vedas would reveal that there is clear cut reference to One and only One God. The so-called gods like Indra, Agni, Varuna, Rudra etc. are only different names which represent various powers and attributes of God. This has been clarified therein that these manifested powers (gods) stand for different aspects of the one Supreme Lord Only.
It is also mentioned in the Vedas that to know God is the sole aim of human life. It is direct perception of God which is prescribed therein. Vedas speak of only one path and that is direct perception:
I now realize the presence of the
Almighty Lord, the universal entity,
the one who is self-illuminated and
radiant like the sun.
He is beyond all darkness; with
this realization, mow I fear not even death.
I proclaim, this is the path, the only
path to salvation, to the goal of life,
the eternal bliss.
Yajur 31.18
The Vedas are the first scriptures which gave the concept of an ideal man and ideal society. To quote;
The entire human race was visualized in the form of one human being
Rig. 10.90.10
In mankind nobody is higher or lower nor is anybody of middle status.
Rig. 5.59.6
Love for all and harmony in society was the hallmark of the Vedic era. By knowing God as the common denominator (thread) of cosmos, man develops love for other fellow-beings which is the basis of an ideal society.
‘Veda’ means knowledge of One God and the totality of creation. We have reduced ‘Veda’ to mere set of hymns which are recited as part of the ritual structure to praise God or gods. Mere praise of a thing does not stand for the knowledge of that thing. Real praise starts when that thing is actually known. Accordingly, God is first to be known and experienced as One and universal and then only He can be rightly praised That us why it is said that there is no veda in Veda. The word ‘Veda’ from ‘vid’ to know means knowledge par excellence, sacred wisdom or divine revelation.
Extra Knock: Preparing for Exams
With the blessings of The True Master and with the permission of The Branch In charge, A seminar was organized at Kharar Bhawan on 11th January 2009. This seminar was based on solving the problems commonly faced by the students while preparing for the exams. Rev. Prof. Jindal Ji, Rev. Charnjit Kaur Ji, Rev. Amrita Ji. Besides, Rev. Vishwanath, Rev.Vinod Mehta Ji, and Rev. Rajni Ji were present to address the students..
Beginning with on how to attempt a Question paper, Rev. Amrita ji said that students, who get confused during exams, should not read the whole question paper. The questions, whose answers are not known to you, will make you nervous and adversely affect the overall attempt of the question paper. Therefore you should start solving from the very first question that you know and as you will attempt more and more questions, your level of confidence will increase and it will help to perform better in the examination.
Talking about preparation of exams she advised students that if they are left with minimum time period for preparing subject then they should concentrate over the main chapters of a subject or the chapters which are easy to learn.
Over the point of attempting the question paper, Rev Jindal Ji expressed some different point of view. He said that in the first couple of minutes, the entire question paper should be read carefully and the questions whose answers are correctly known to you, should be tick marked and for those questions which have internal choice, it should be decided in the reading time only as to which one to attempt. By this way, your precious time will be saved and you can attempt maximum questions. He also had a word of caution for the students, he said, “Don’t study under pressure & don’t watch Television while studying”.
Talking about concentration, he said that one should study a single subject in one sitting. It will make one’s mind focus on one aspect and help one to grab large portion of the subject. Adding to this, Rev. Vishwanath and Rev Vinod Mehta ji said that Simran (Reciting of holy Simran) is the best source of concentration. By doing it before beginning of the study, it makes one’s mind fresh & attentive, and increases the learning ability. Rev. Vishwanath Ji added the words that If you are working on comprehension etc then first read questions carefully so that while reading the paragraph you will know that which line are important and then it makes it easy to answer the related questions. Touching the problem of students, Rev. Charanjit Kaur Ji said that one must try to attempt all the questions of the question paper as it makes a good impression on the examiner.
Concluding the seminar Rev. Rajni Ji revealed that hard work and luck are the two things which bring success. Since luck is in the hands of Satguru, hard work is in our hand; therefore one should concentrate on one’s hard work.
Overall the seminar proved to be very informative for the students and it originated motivation and a ray of hope in the minds of students.
